Class Notes

Michael Aiello ’17, G’19: Promoted to Associate Director of Alumni Relations at SUNY Polytechnic Institute.

Douglas K. Axelson ’85: I had a full-time job as a healthcare manager, and I was a mother and a wife. The online HIM program fit me and my lifestyle perfectly. It was different and challenging in the sense that you really had to be disciplined, but it was rewarding as well. A few months after earning my bachelor’s degree, I was promoted to become department administrator. Fast forward a few years later, I am now a chief administrative officer at Weill Cornell Medical College, New York-Presbyterian Hospital. I am proud of that and could not achieve my career successes without SUNY Poly.

David J. Chomycz ’99: I attended SUNY Poly because of baseball. Kevin Edick was the baseball coach. SUNY Poly has a nice location on the hill there. My favorite memory with the baseball team was our Myrtle Beach trips. My degree at SUNY Poly enabled me to get a job with the New York State Department of Transportation. The whole time I started off as a designer in the structures group in Poughkeepsie. From there, now I’m in the maintenance group, basically doing the engineering work for the highway maintenance folks.

Audrey Horton ’24: I have been recently promoted to Senior Employment Specialist at Express Employment Professionals, being the head of recruiting and playing a key role in career development for our new recruiters. It has always been my goal to be a lead recruiter and I am excited to have achieved this and be of help in developing individuals careers.

Nikki A. Jones ’92: There was a lot of good buzz about his program. I got hired right out of college, and I’ve been working in telecommunications ever since. I still stay in touch with people that I went to school with. One of my favorite memories from SUNY Poly was my involvement with the radio and television station. I got the opportunity to travel with the basketball team and record some of the games so people on campus could watch them. WCOT had other various radio and television shows, and we had a couple of really good DJs that would play music at various campus events.

Eugene “Gene” A. Johann ’77: Obtaining my MSN helped me feel better about myself, because my degree had been a lifelong goal. Then, in regard to professional goals, I have worked all my adult life to continue to learn and grow in nursing. I earned my degree later in life, so I finally am where I wanted to be and dreamed I would be.

Rebecca Jennings Laymon ’87: retired from Utica National after 22.5 years. Rebecca and her husband plan to travel and enjoy themselves. Their oldest son was married this past July and is a fighter pilot in the US Air Force. Their younger son was married in October of 2023 and is a New York State Forest Ranger. Their daughter is the Head Women’s Lacrosse Coach at Wilkes University. She was an Assistant Women’s Lacrosse Coach at SUNY Poly a few years ago. Life for us is great!

Dennis Joseph Loftus ’00: I had an internship at the Griffiss Air Force Base in Rome. I’m pretty sure that the internship, the project that I did for my master’s project, helped me to get the job, which is where I still am. I’ve been working for Epicor since 2011. SUNY Poly helped set me up for success in my career.

James F. Luley ’76: I had gone to a two-year agriculture and technical college, and SUNY Poly was a great way to finish up my bachelor’s degree. I had taken early childhood education, and I decided that human services would be the best route for me to expand my opportunities. SUNY Poly was a great opportunity. I got my BPS in human services, so it expanded my opportunities to work with different people, age groups, and issues.

Michael Frederick Marchio ’19: Was promoted to General Manager of Potentia Management in September 2024.

David Mishalanie ’83: Recently retired from the Grant County Public Utility District, who was the Chief Dam Safety Engineer.

Harold Glen Stone, Jr. ’01: Harold was looking for an online program that was accredited in New York State to get my master’s degree. They had a program available in accountancy that met all the requirements that I needed. The curriculum that I learned has helped me in my career. I’m self-employed, and I run my own businesses.

Isaac Anthony Sunkes ’05: My husband was also a 2009 graduate. He went to SUNY and majored in engineering. I would come and visit him every weekend. I also made friends. At the end of my freshman year, I transferred. It was great. The campus itself was beautiful. I loved the small classes. I felt like that allowed me to have more individual attention in each of my classes. I was grateful for that. I wanted to further my education and something that SUNY offered was associate professors. They were practicing social work and psychology in the field. That helped me to decide where to go with my career. I was thankful for that opportunity.

Stephon Williams ’16: recently joined Oscar Health as Manager of Payment Integrity (Pre-Pay). Oscar Health is a full stack tech health insurance company.
