SUNY Poly Explores the Future of AI Through Inaugural Showcase
SUNY Polytechnic Institute recently hosted its inaugural “AI in Action Showcase,” a three-day event that brought together scholars, industry leaders, healthcare professionals, educators, and students to explore the growing impact of artificial intelligence across a range of industries and disciplines.
Held on SUNY Poly’s campus in Utica, the showcase featured presentations, interdisciplinary panels, poster sessions, and collaborative discussions focused on how AI is shaping advanced manufacturing, healthcare, education, and workforce development. The event highlighted SUNY Poly’s commitment to innovation while emphasizing the importance of human-centered technology and inclusive progress.
Throughout the showcase, attendees participated in sessions covering topics such as machine learning applications in materials design, next-generation solar technologies, pandemic response strategies, cancer detection, bioinformatics, and the evolving role of AI in engineering, business, fintech, nursing, ethics, and interactive media.
Panels and workshops also examined how institutions and employers can better prepare students and professionals for an increasingly AI-driven workforce. Faculty, researchers, and industry experts explored both the opportunities and responsibilities that come with integrating artificial intelligence into everyday life and professional practice.
A featured keynote presentation by Dr. Gerard Puccio, director of Buffalo State University’s Center for Applied Imagination, focused on the relationship between creativity, imagination, and emerging technologies. His presentation encouraged attendees to think critically about how innovation and human creativity can work together to solve complex challenges.
SUNY Poly President Dr. Winston Soboyejo framed the showcase within a broader conversation about the future of technology and society, emphasizing that artificial intelligence should be viewed as a tool that strengthens human potential rather than replaces it.
