Record-Breaking Class: 800 New Students Join SUNY Poly

SUNY Polytechnic Institute welcomed the largest new undergraduate class in the institution’s history, with 800 new students having enrolled this past fall. The group includes both first-year and transfer students and surpasses the previous record of 779 set in 2017. The milestone reflects continued momentum for SUNY Poly’s distinctive polytechnic education and the growing interest in its hands-on, career-connected approach to learning.
The record enrollment is also a testament to the coordinated work happening across campus, from recruitment and communications to financial aid, student services, and academic support. Together, these efforts help students and families understand what sets SUNY Poly apart, including applied learning experiences, strong faculty mentorship, and programs aligned with emerging workforce needs.
SUNY Poly’s continued rise is reinforced by national recognition for academic excellence and student outcomes. In U.S. News & World Report’s 2026 Best Colleges rankings, SUNY Poly is ranked among the Top 15 public institutions in the “Top Public Schools, Regional Universities–North” category and placed in the Top 40 overall in the Regional Universities–North category. SUNY Poly was also named to Forbes’ 2026 America’s Top Colleges list, recognized using outcome-focused measures such as alumni salary, student satisfaction, debt, graduation rates, and academic success.
Additional honors highlight both student experience and institutional commitment. SUNY Poly has been recognized as a College of Distinction, reflecting its standing among leading colleges in the United States, in New York State, and among public universities. The institute also joined the FirstGen Forward Network for 2025–26 as one of only 60 new members nationwide, recognition of SUNY Poly’s focus on strengthening support for first-generation students and advancing initiatives that promote long-term success.
