Elevating Impact

SUNY Poly is on schedule to publish their 2024-29 Strategic Plan, which will guide the university’s path forward as the State and nation’s premier public polytechnic, later this month.

The process, which began in December 2022, moved forward significantly this academic year.

In November, SUNY Poly President Dr. Winston Soboyejo announced the formation of workgroups led by members of the university’s senior leadership team, who worked with various stakeholders to further define the following four core pillars. They are: Support our students; Grow Our Brand and External Partnerships; Improve Our Campus Infrastructure; and Invest in Academic Excellence.

The pillars explained

1. Support Our Students: Our students are our north star, and their success depends on our ability to respond to their suggestions and to continually improve the social and environmental foundations that enable them to thrive.

2. Grow Our Brand and External Partnerships: Our investment in relationships with our community and industry partners will enhance the quality of our education and research, and solidify SUNY Poly’s position as a driver of the technological and economic revitalization of the Mohawk Valley.

3. Improve Our Campus Infrastructure: Thanks to the steadfast support of SUNY and our elected officials, SUNY Poly has a demonstrated commitment to world-class facilities that will benefit research, education, and workforce development activities.

4. Invest in Academic Excellence: Sustained attention to academic programs, collaborative research and scholarship, and faculty development will ensure that SUNY Poly’s students and partners will continue our rapid evolution into the state and nation’s premier public polytechnic.

A collaborative approach

The leaders of these pillars presented at two strategic planning sessions. The first was held on January 12 and had 175 people in attendance, ranging from college staff, faculty and resident advisors, in addition to 50-plus external partners. Then, on February 6, a session was held exclusively for students, with over 60 in attendance. These invaluable inputs from our campus and external stakeholders are currently being woven into the finalized plan that will be published in March. A committee, who will ensure the plan is properly implemented, will also be formed soon.
