Foundation Board Member Spotlight
Jasminka Husic ’08
In addition to garnering great success in the business world, Jasminka Husic ‘08 remains incredibly active at SUNY Poly, serving as Vice Chair of their Foundation’s Board of Directors.
“It’s a privilege to be able to give back to my Alma Mater in this way,” she said. “When I was asked if I would consider joining the Board, there was no consideration needed; I immediately said yes. SUNY Poly is so important for this area, for our community, and I’m very glad to contribute to its success and to help ensure that the great work of the Foundation continues.”
Husic is currently in her eighth year at the New York State Technology Enterprise Corporation (NYSTEC), an independent technology consulting company, with over 360 employees, serving as a trusted advisor to government at the federal, state, and local levels.
“We are headquartered in Rome, with offices in Albany and New York City, and our goal is to support our clients in the best way possible to help them be successful,” she said. “Some of the services we provide include business analysis, data strategy and analysis, program and project management, organizational change management, strategic planning, quality control and assurance, and cyber-security assessments.”
Husic started as a Controller, and now is the company’s CFO, Director of Finance and Business Intelligence. Her main responsibilities are developing strategies that minimize financial risk and that support the growth and financial sustainability of the organization, as well as ensuring compliance with various laws and regulations. She’s also responsible for budgeting, financial reporting including data automation and dashboards that provide performance insights and support key business decision, internal controls, various audits, and continuous operations of the finance and the business intelligence teams.
“I work closely with Investment, Audit, and Compensation committees of NYSTEC’s Board of Directors, and I lead or support various organizational initiatives,” she explains. “My role also provides me an opportunity to be involved with local community organizations and to support programs and initiatives that matter to me personally and professionally.”
Reflecting on her time at Poly, Husic notes that the campus has seen many changes she was a student, most notably, the addition of the Student Center and Wildcat Field House.
“My time was mostly spent in the Kunsela Hall and the library and it’s wonderful to see how much the campus has expanded,” she said. “There are also so many new services available to the students like the poly pantry, career closet and the writing and communications center, and so many great events organized for and by the students. I recently learned about the Late Night Breakfast and I so wish we had that when I was at SUNY.”
She said SUNY Poly was instrumental in preparing her for her current career. A master’s in accountancy was exactly what I needed to meet the educational criteria for the CPA exam, but it was what I learned in those classes that prepared me for my first accounting job which led to my career in accounting and my current position as a CFO.”
When asked what her fondest memory from her time at SUNY Poly was, Husic said a viewing of the movie “Crazy Eddie” in her auditing class.
“Most of us in the class were shocked by it,” she said, “but we all also laughed and had a great discussion after the movie, and it solidified my love for auditing and accounting.”
